South Korean Goverment Adopting Mozilla and Other Open Source Software

Seokchan Yun writes: “The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) in Korea has announced the start of an open-source testbed to use open-source software instead of commercial products. As a first step, organizations including the South Korea Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA) and the Korea Association of Information and Telecommunication will switch to open-source software such as the Linux operating system and Mozilla Web browser for both desktop PCs and servers. “On October 29th 2003, MIC of Korea added two organizations: Chuncheon Cityhall and GangWon Provincial University. And KIPA started the cross-browser plan for all government organizations to change their HTML, CSS and JavaScript coding to be independent of Microsoft Internet Explorer. It means the Korean government is continually pushing open-source policy in the level of government organization.”
