The Memory of Mozilla Summit 2010

The second Mozilla Summit was held in Whistler from July 7th to 9th, 2010. Over 600 Mozilla people (half of members are community and half are employee) were joined under slogan “Be More Like the Web”. It’s double size attendee compared with the last summit.

It’s also great time with active and passionate people in the world. From keynote session, there are two messages for Mozilla. One is Firefox as the open Web platform supporting open standards (HTML5), mobile and social services. The other is long-term community vision with lowering the barrier , engaging new kinds of contributors at a truly massive scale as like the Scouts, 100 years volunteer-based community.

Mozilla’s mission is changing from offering browser choice to improving Internet life to everyone in the global scale. It means Mozilla is not technology community anymore.

In 2nd day, I felt this change from ScienceFair, over 50 technology and community activities and WorldExpo, over 40 local community presentation in the lobby.

In Korea booth, I prepared Korean traditional fans as a gift for giving comments to our community. Most of them loves Korean electronics (especially to European), online game (to Asian) and food as like Kim-chi, Gal-bi and Bibimbab (to American).

Also everyone worried about the ActiveX monopoly which depends on Internet Explorer by the governmental regulation. But, there was very hopeful news “South Korea Relaxes Curbs on Web Browsers” and it will be changed into open web environment and the Korean users can freely choose their web browser.

Finally my kids were grown up with Firefox from 1.0 to 3.6 and shown in Firefox’s Fastest Fan and Thank you video.

Actually their Firefox domino video was also popular for booth visitors and they said it’s awesome to show Firefox’s fast speed.

Over 600 Mozilla people were be the top of Whistler mountain and took an awesome picture as an army of awesome. I’m very happy to see many Mozilla people especially Asian community leaders. This event makes inspiration to me and motivates my activities. Thanks, Mozilla!
